Wine of the Year! Stunning bouquet of spice, violets and earth with soft cherries and a slightly meaty/iron minerality that reminded me of René Engel (which I haven’t drunk for 15 years).
It was a bottle like this that started me chasing the rainbows all those years ago. Great Burgundy is so fickle and unpredictable, but when you catch a bottle at its elusive best there really are few better things in the world.

A mighty wine at first which after initial assessment was decided to be decanted in a magnum decanter. So as a fine pinot it didn't start out really - but that's consistent with my experience of 05 red Burg which I am not so convinced of as I lack the "pinote" element at this moment. It's rather often monolitique, statuesque, yes almost "Bordeaux"esque. Not really what I look for in my pinot noir. This did come round however to lighten and loosen up, show nice fruit ripeness without being heady, intense red berry and some dry extract. It had a tough stance against Bouchard Reignots 02 and Rousseau Beze 11 but on its own it would have been a very good to excellent wine.

Deep ruby red. Robust mixed berries. Big fruit, good tannin level. Has a long road ahead.

One of the better finds this year. If you bought this juice early and your patience won the day, your reward is here.
