  • Sampling the 2022 vintages from Drouhin Laroze revealed a captivating blend of ripe fruits and tannins, enhanced by unexpected freshness despite the year's intense heat (a common feature in all of Burgundy in 2022). Although these wines sometimes verge on excessive ripeness and are not the most transparent and pure Burgs, their robust concentration, depth, and elegant structure impress. I particularly liked the menthol note I found in all cuvees (together with spice aromas). The highlights were Bonnes Mares (94pts) and Clos de Beze (95pts), both excellent investments for future enjoyment (must buy!).

TN: Intriguing bouquet exuding elegance with dark red fruit, spices, toasty notes. On the palate layered, complex, layers and layers of red berries, some floral notes, minerality, earthy aromas, herbs, minty notes. Velvety tannins which will have to soften further but impressive concentration and depth, good freshness and a very long and expanding finish. This is a great wine, that drinks at a 94pts level today but has upside and should reach a higher rating in 10/15 years time.

  • Tasting the 2022s from Drouhin-Laroze. They use approx. 30% new barrels for Village, 50% new for 1er Crus and roughly 80% new for Grands Crus. The barrels are max 3 years old. In general, the wines appeared to be built in a way that will require more aging. Sweet fruit, hints of Balsamic and herbal freshness from grass and menthol were common features. Among the Villages, the Vignes Belles was not far off of a 1er Cru. Bonnes Mares and Clos de Bèze were on equal footing, but with vastly different characters.

    Tasting note:
Precise and layered fruit of red berries with just a whisker of balsamic. Sweet, compote-like features as well as accents of menthol. There is intensity that continues to build, asking you to revisit time and again. Densely structured with firm yet soft tannin with fresh acidity and solid length finish.
