We just had a 2003 Gewürztraminer with some spicy Thai food. Interesting flavor. Still some sweetness, but not much. Great pairing. Amazing that it is still good after 14 years.

I am not a fan of Gewurztraminer, which is why this bottle sat in my cellar for so long -- it was received as a gift. I was very pleasantly surprised how it had aged. The cloying rose character characteristic of Gewurztraminer was diminished, and the side notes that I find distracting in a Gewurztraminer were completely gone. Instead, the wine was very nicely integrated and noticeably less sweet. I would even go so far as to say it had elegance and poise. I don't recommend keeping a Gewurztraminer for so long, but if your cellar is good like mine, you might like the result.
Clean nose of medium/medium+ intensity showing sweet notes of honey, pineapple, marmelade, ultra ripe apricot and peach, a thin sweet spice layer of cinnamon and nutmeg. Fully develop as the nose despite the thick sweet coating lacks any real complexity and looks thin.
The wine is off dry/medium dry, medium+ body, medium intensity, medium alcohol (13%) and medium+/high acidity. The wine feels dilluted with honey, apricot and peach marmelade and a disturbing oxidative finish, medium aftertaste.
Good wine, high price but sadly already gone downhill. It offers a great example though of how an entry level of a great producer can overcome the bad storage and fade away with dignity.
