1hr decant. Quite closed on opening. Fruity, Rich, easy to drink! Damson on the nose, smooth on entry with nice lick of tanin on the mid palette and a moderately acidic finish. Clearly well made if perhaps a little safe, I tend to perfer a little more wildness in Douro wines. That said a very enjoyable glass, although maybe just a little past its best.

Pnp. Have had a number of those over the years, and still have a couple of bottles left. Am wondering whether these Douro reds are not best drunk in their youth. My experience with Douro is clearly limited but have also had the "first", much more expensive wine from Quinta do Vale Meao around age 15, and Niepoort's first wine at around the same age. Just like the Mendro now, they all show a rather rustic profile with still sizeable and fairly rough tannins, and dark fruit that is concentrated but nevertheless falling somewhat apart on the mid palate. Curious to hear different opinions on Douro reds but this wine showed a much better balance of structure and fruit 5-6 years ago, and I am not convinced it will get there ever again.

Have been waiting to savor this wine for some time. Tasted perfect with Mediterranean feast of shawarma, hummus, stuffed grape leaves and the works. Red fruit and light bodied but with plenty of structure. Received this as a gift and I will look for more to enjoy.

Pnp. Still a very dark garnet in the glass, showing little evolution. Muted fruit on the nose with some spices, on the palate surprisingly soft with liquorice, dark chocolate and some smooth but very ripe dark fruit, short finish. Would drink up as this is likely not going anywhere
