Surprisingly tasty. Ripe dark fruit and cinnamon, spice and earth. Well integrated tannins and full body. This has developed really well since first tasting years ago.

Drank over two days, it stayed fine and did not have oxidative notes on day 2. Dark ruby red with purple on the rim. Great cherry note in the nose, also some earthy tones, tobacco. Very nice, even though not overly complex. On the palate, everything's there: animating acidity, grippy, slightly rough tannins, fine fruit (cherry again), earthy mineralic notes. A bit more meat on the bones and I'd be raving much more, but this is also really good the way it is.

It wouldn't be fair to score this one now as it was popped at least 2 years too early. Very, very tight on the nose and palate. I am writing 24 hours after opening and some fruit is just starting to emerge. I'll keep checking back on it over the next few days.

Another year, another fine Arretxea rouge. Darker and more dense in color and texture than is typical, perhaps, but the wine still shows its characteristic snappy red fruit accents, paprika, damp earth, and a ton of bloody roast meat, and its overall profile sits squarely within the savory spectrum.
