  • Aldo is well-known for being the modern part of the family, that is, for the use of new wooden barrels, high alcohol wines and always offering ripe fruit bombs. Nor had my previous experience always been fully positive. However, this bottle that has passed lying down in my cellar for the last twelve years has certainly been very interesting. It seems that only those bottles that I have previously stored for years in my place are showing in shape. I deserve an award :-)
By the way, what should be invested in is the quality of the corks because in Langhe it is very common to go out in sections and too soaked. In this particular case, the last part was split and when trying to take it out with a corkscrew, it sank into the wine and had to be decanted for an hour and a half.
Pale cherry colour with a darker core. Aromas of wild strawberries, muffins on the windowsill, nettles, mahogany with notes of flesh, sweet spices and sour cream. Complexity with no limits.
On the other hand, the palate has an aqueous texture, low density, slightly tannic, some refreshing volatile acidity so a compromising digedtibility and a tight persistence. A wine with few sediments, more than ready to be consumed right now, always with food.
And finally and without the intention of being a conspiracy, how is it possible that in the last four years no one in CT has drunk bottles of this wine with 50% of the available units still stored? Everything is very very weird ...

  • The years went by, and this one became of age, but worry not, not too old. Great Barolo nose with still good red fruit and licorice, but now more dominated by earth and some darker fruit notes. Medium plus bodied and elegant, the palate shows red fruit, some black fruit, good acidity and length. 93 points. Drink now or hold for 5-10 years if you want it 3rd-ish.

  • Consumed over a period of two days. The wine was dark ruby in colour and offered a lovely, fragrant, sweet-scented nose of roses, red cherry, herbs, sweets spices, marzipan, clove, hey and tar. On the palate the wine showed red fruit, rose petals, herbs, intense spice, marzipan, liquorice, cola, tar and black tea. The wine kept improving as the hours passed. On day one, the high, medium-fine tannin became a little chewy and dry on the finish. The wine seemed to have average length, but then the red fruits completely coated the palate and just stayed there, no escape! The notable heat from the alcohol only started to tame after three hours in the decanter. On day two, the tannins still had a lot of grip, but the wine was rounder than on day one, the alcohol now was in check and the wine hence seemed even more complete. Medium-plus acidity gave the wine freshness. A medium- to full-bodied, red fruit driven, rather feminine Barolo with good complexity and very good concentration. Still very young and easily good for another decade. A lovely Barolo! I would recommend decanting for at least three hours. 93+ for now.

  • Aromas of coffee grounds, cherry, red raspberry, dry soil and light licorice. Cough syrup back palate with a tight and astringent backend and a thin, short finish.
