Double decanted for 3 hrs, deep ruby with a brick rim, classic roses on the nose, tart cherries on the palate, med/firm tannins, med. finish; delicious & like many 09s, ready to drink, no rush

I agree with the precise description yesterday by Aagrawal. We poured two small glasses upon opening, and decanted the rest, tasting along as we waited for it to open fully. At first it was mostly alcoholic and a bit thin, even unpleasing. It gradually smoothed out and became richer during an hour or two over dinner and we drank more and thoroughly enjoyed it. It continually became fruitier and smoother, eventually to the point that my wife thought it had lost its character and become "like a california wine". It was so strongly alcoholic (at 15%), although not unenjoyably so, that we could not finish it, needing to drive home, and gave the remainder to the grateful waiter. This is not my favorite style of wine and at $200 I will probably not do this again, but it seemed perfect for a fine special occasion Italian dinner.

Decanted off a small amount of sediment in the last 0.5 oz. Light-medium ruby, minor bricking but less than expected for nebbiolo at this age; aromatic, black cherry, some smoke, some roses; palate is medium bodied, relatively richly textured for nebbiolo, high tannin but smooth rather than rough, black cherry, high acidity, alcohol present and high but surprisingly balanced for 15%; finish is medium length. A very nice Barolo, modern-styled but not overly so, relatively balanced even in a warm year. Seems ready and enjoyable but would last another decade without any problem. 92
