Over the weekend, we'd had the 08s from Veuve Clicquot, Moet and Roederer and, for me, this was streets ahead of the others. I just love the acrid grip and the depth.

Tenth bottle from a full case purchased from the Dutch importer in 2015. At perfect peak now, and it has really become a wonderfully complex and stylish vintage Champagne. Toasty and spicy, lemon curd and orchard fruit, white almonds, silky and flavoursome palate, long finish with toasted nuts.

This wine was great. Even more for the price I paid. 2008 is really such a great vintage, I don't recall a champagne from this vintage I did not like. Classic vintage profile from a big house, plenty of life to go but very good already

Auntie Ro’s Birthday Dinner (Hawksmoor Knightsbridge): Drank at home before heading out. Wow - best of these yet? Lovely mouthfeel - fine, energetic bubbles. The nose is great - just a hint of incense, real freshness a hint of lemon, then on the palate real length, acid precision held in an all too easy to drink frame. Not sure if it was just the mood, or just this bottle, but this was performing excellently.

RED and BLACK's recent note sums this up splendidly. Taittinger's Brut Millesime is underrated and in this vintage is really very good.
