The Jadot Echezeaux is routinely one of the stars of the portfolio, and 2003 is no exception. A still youthfully primary bouquet of ripe black fruit, bonfire, subtle grilled meats and rich soil, subtly framed by new oak, leads into a broad, concentrated wine with a lovely firm core of rich, almost chocolatey tannins and juicy acids. The character of the vintage shows in the quality of the tannins, not in the level of acidity, and this seems to be just cruising along in the cellar. Already a charmer, but the terroir will need another decade to truly begin to shine through.

Actually decanted (!) and waited a couple of hours. Translucent medium red color. Nose of cherry and mushroom. I hate to say "watery," but that is the first impression. After awhile, the flavors are there but it seems the oak overpowers them. Happy New Year!

Advanced Tasting Course - session #3 (Wine Road Tel-Aviv): light cherry transparent red color with brown/orange edges;
moss, wet earth & truffles aroma;
high balanced acidity; full-bodied; long & spicy after-taste;
typical of a warmer vintage.
