Fresh-looking garnet colour. Absolutely gorgeous nose: lifted sweet blueberry and peach fruit aromas, smoky bacon and earth. With air the nose rounds out and becomes a real knockout. Mid-weight palate with more of that sweet fruit, earth and nice secondary development. Acidity of the vintage very present but not intrusive.

When it was served blind, I said to myself this is a Denis Mortet on my first sip. Stemmy and sweet wild berries with lots of transparency. Very expressive and giving. Lovely.

Nose shows smokey, sweet red fruit, notes of game. Palate is full, generous and rich, with sweet yet gamey red fruit, soft tannins and lovely fresh contrasting acidity. Good length smoky, savoury finish. Excellent, drinking well but no particular hurry.

sadly now i have had a number of 1996 Denis Mortet bottles now with this sort of flaw - not corked, cloudy, sour, smells like burn rubber - is this premox?

A young wine for a 15yr old '96 vintage primeur cru. Maturing elements still well balanced by bright acidity and cherry spice. Medium bodied, with a rising finish. As stated below a touch sour but not a major distraction. Love the nose, and the length. This bottle has (would have had) another 5+years.
