  • Quite pale in colour with more signs of age than might be expected. A pretty, integrated and nuanced nose. The palate is medium weight with a terrific silkiness to the finish that speaks of quality in a low-key but compelling way. At the top end of premier cru qualitatively; my only question mark being over potential longevity as I can't see it needing to resolve further. That said there is no reason to think it lacks the structure to hold for a decade yet.

  • Greatest red Burgundy - Wine tasting dinner (Rest FB (kg arr.)): 4 flights tasted:
    1. Chambolle Musigny: Denis Mortet 1. cru Aux Beaux Bruns '10 (classical Chambolle, light, elegant, perfect aromas and balance 93-94/100) against Vogué Le Musigny vielles vignes '06 (much more intensity, liquorice and too many tannins - in other words much too young, 91/100)
    2. Gevrey-Chambertin: Philippe Pacalet Ruchotte-Chambertin '11 (close to natural wine, a lot of fruit, liquorice, definitely not a typical Bourgogne, 93/100) against Armand Rousseau Le Chambertin '11 (develops positively in the glass, high acidity, fantastic flavours, still very young, never the less I rated i 95/100 based on performance right now, which means it is the winner of this tasting)
    3. Vosne Romanee: DRC Richebourg '09 (way too young, very closed and too many tannins, however still a good glass of wine 93/100) against DRC La Täche '09 (deeper colour, even mores closed, more tannin and higher intensity both on the nose and palate - should have waited another 10 years or more, 93/100)
    4. Sauternes: Yquem '01 (unbelievable good wine on the nose and palate, extremely good balance - so far the best Sauternes I have ever tasted, It It is not getting better than it is now, just changing towards too many tertiary notes like the 1990. I certainly disagree with Wine Advocate which states drinking window to begin 2030, 98-99/100) against Yquem '90 (Rated 99 by RP - because of the age it is much too oxidative for me (sherry like), almost amber colour, the '01 is so much better 88/100)

  • I love Arnaud's wines. A wine of haunting beauty, freshness, and elegance. First signs of secondary stages on the nose. Alongside red cherry / strawberry fruit hypnotic Burgundian spice, forest floor, earth, burning wood, crushed leaves that it seems only a wine from here captures. Red cherry, raspberry and strawberry on the palate - still primary, slightly tart, acidic. Maybe a hint of darker blueberry fruit after a couple of hours. Young - plenty of time. Long finish. Boy this is hypnotic and intoxicating! There is real beauty here. Perfect balance. Oak perfectly integrated. Confident but not flashy. Great wine.

  • Good nose but probably not as floral as Mortet Gevrey Chambertin VV 2009. Notes of damped forest floor, spice, lavender, dark berry and smoky oak. Silky and sweet on entry, decent mid-palate but not long finish. Almost sudden cut-off at finish. 13.5% alcohol with no hint, good balance overall. Shows better on 2nd day, seems to put on more weight and length but also slight heat at finish. More about finesse than power. Reduction reported earlier by AM and ST should not be an issue. 90-93 pts.

  • Post Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner (Chateau de Meursault): Bottle opened two days earlier, with cork then reinserted. Bright red fruit with great aromatic concentration. Lush and dense on palate with some vanilla and cocoa background notes. A bit straightforward right now. Really well textured, this will certainly evolve into something more intriguingly finessed.
