Dark dark purple with brownish streaks. Despite appearance this is holding up just fine with miles to go. Chocolate and rich nose. Tannins have softened with age leaving things in a good place. Full bodied with dark fruit but enough acidity to balance it out. Balance all around actually. Touches of grit, anise, red and black fruit. To me this has typicity. A classic sagrantino, you get what you’d expect. Except for the somewhat short finish. I’d wait to see how the herbal aromas evolve in glass but can’t resist drinking up.

Been trying to convince myself this will get better with time. Not one bit. Really don’t understand the attraction here. Throwing my last 2 bottles away.

This tannic beast is still ringing with flavors of dark stone fruit, black pepper and freshly tilled earth. Delightful with spicy pasta all'Amatriciana!

Decanted and ready immediately. My experience with Montefalco Sagrantino is of wild, tannic, rough wines, while here we have a quite civilised one, melted tannins, fully matured, sweet earthy spices, coffee beans, medium to low acidity. Overall tasty, classy, not very convincing on the finish though, become softer with age, at least this bottle.
