  • Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore - Chapitre de la St Vincent Tournante des Chassagne Montrachet (Takumi Tokyo, Keppel Bay): I have had plenty of surprisingly good 2003s recently, but every now and then, a wine like this comes around to underscore why the vintage was a disaster in some quarters. Nose was very attractive actually, if not a whit Burgundian - it was almost a dead-ringer for, say, a Leeuwin Art Series Chard - with lots and lots of toasty nuts and buttery popcorn along with ripe yellow fruit and a touch of flowers. Palate was a real let-down though. Again, lots of oak, which more or less overwhelmed whatever fruit there was, and there did not seem to be much to begin with. Acid was unsurpirsingly low, and there was some heat on the shortish finish that showed a largish dose of wood spice. This rather fizzled out. Not a great effort, especially when compared to the really nice 2003 Fontane-Gagnard that came after it.

  • Excellent pear, smoke, and honey on the nose. This wine had a good amount of acidity to balance the fruit. Medium to light bodied, with a nice finish and straw gold color. Overall a very good Chassagne-Montrachet.

  • I think this is at its peak. Nice aromatics, somewhat floral with warm spices, toasty oak, vanilla, and grilled pears. The palate is well balanced, although the acidity is a touch softer than the last bottle. Moderately rich and velvety with white peach, pear, and a slight tropical note for fruit. Paired well with freshly caught Russian River red salmon. I agree with Silton about the QPR on this bottle. Had it been what it normally retails for (right around $60-70) it would have been a touch disappointing. However at $35, it is a great value.

  • seepage, raised cork, soaked cork… in this case, the seepage seems to be a result of a poor cork, as the cork is very soft & “nerf” like, almost as if the center is hollow or underdeveloped. Skunky oak, thick “oak-shake” texture reminiscent of Patz & Hall Chards. Will try another bottle in better shape later.

  • less brown butter than the last bottle, but not a ton of character.
