PnP. Clean floral nose, soft and round tannins initially but this sort of becomes more austere, grippy, and lean as the meal progresses on, probably in another awkward phase, not the best showing from the same case.

Opened at René Lalique along side the 2002 The 2002 was clearly the better wine at this point The ‘96 was tannic with muted fruit that never really developed over the course of the dinner . Others thought somewhat more of it than I.

Didn't decant which is very rare for me. Just slow ox for about 1.5 hrs. At first pour, very rustic, with strong drying tannins. Not attractive at all. Maybe a low 90 score. Left it alone for about 1.5 hours more and evolved beautifully into a very attractive package. Wonder what it would be like if I had decanted it because everyone's mind was already set after the first glass or so on which ones were the top wines.

Beat the '96 Rousseau: Took some time to open up but when it did this was very good. Old-school Gevrey with meaty, savoury notes. Became more silky and layered with air. Curiously it had a similar nose to Laurent wines, I guess this must have seen quite a bit of toasty oak that has integrated with age.

Beat the 96 Rousseau Ruchottes: Blinded. Orange peel, intense with a tea like finish. Dry fine coating tannins and fresh.
