Fort tannins. Vin ok, mais ne pas nécessairement racheter.

Rich, assertive nose right out of the bottle; not at all tight. The nose is savory and redolent of dried herbs, especially oregano, and has hints of cured meat. The attack is intense and viscous with a mouth coating quality that loosens up as the wine gets more air. Sour plum and oil cured olive through the mid-palate with the former dominating. Right out of the bottle the mid-palate has a lumbering, bull-in-a-china-shop quality that mellows nicely with time in the glass. The plum and olive carry through into the finish accompanied by a hint of pencil shavings; here's where the tannins really assert themselves. Interesting, complex wine. Mencía definitely deserves more attention than it gets.

Really surprisingly good for the age, almost a hint of Burgundy...
