Fruity, earthy, spicy – this is Mencia, for certain. It's no wonder folks are starting to pay attention to this region of Spain, and this varietal in particular - it's delicious (and if this bottle is any example, exceptionally priced)! Red fruits (cranberry, raspberry, currant) were immediately evident along with stewed tomatoes and plums, but the show was really all about the savoury; thyme, pepper, and pine were at the forefront complimented by earth, smoke, and cured meat. The cured meat was especially notable on the second night, particularly on the finish. Appearing dark and brooding, but actually quite light in stature (only 12.5%), it was a very drinkable wine even if a little straightforward on the nose. I have yet to meet a Telmo Rodriguez wine I didn't like...

Light in the glass. Brick red. Chalk and cherry on the noise. Mineral in the mouth with subtle berries - almost blackberry. Vegetal and a bit of menthol at the end. Super pleasant mouthfeel. Very well made.

Completely correct but bland wine.
Life's too short for bland wines.

Very nice, moderately priced red. Smoke, pepper, lite. Would pair well with steak.
