Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Lean and focused mostly black fruits. Precision, firm structure and good balance made me think this was actually from northern Rhone. Also holding up well for its age, this should continue to evolve and remain interesting for another 5-10 years.

Showed a really nice and floral nose with fruit and a bit of vanilla. The color is dark purple, inky and opaque. The palate showed very good extraction and is mouth-filling and chewy. There are tannins, but they are well integrated with the fruit. I really liked this wine, especially for the price ($25). 13.5% alcohol, 25% new french oak; fined with egg whites and bottled unfiltered; good stuff. (The Block-X Bien Nacido, which was also poured is more expensive and also better than this!) (Tasted at the 2004 Rhone Rangers tasting in San Francisco).

Single-dimensional fruit with dominant alcohol and some age.

The alchohol overpowered the fruit. The 2004 is much better.
