Solid showing for the last bottle but just lacked a little character and complexity. Plenty of depth and good blackberry fruit but nothing that really stood out which was surprising looking at previous notes. Still pretty good red on Christmas Day but was rather overshadowed by the preceding Leoville Barton 2006 and following Rioja Alta GR 2005.

Nose of baked earth, red cherry, dried herbs and black olive. Smooth, silky palate of red berries with grippy tannins and a long, smoky, tarry, spiced plum and liquorice finish. Beautifully balanced, and right in its drinking window.

Popped and decanted at Chi Spacca. Overextracted and unsubtle. Hot vintage, winemaker couldn’t rein in the fruit. None of the Even food (lamb ribs short ribs, Waxman’s chicken) didn’t help. Vintage like this really separates the greats from the pretenders.

Had to bust out the magnetic pill stirrer and use it for about 30 minutes here after decanting. Had really good maroon color with a hint of brown on the meniscus. Nose seemed to be quite usual for Brunello with a distinctly old world character. On the palate, QUITE locked up. Red figs and tobacco leaf. Medium bodied edging to full bodied. Finished with a little bit of black pepper and stiff neutral oak. It needs probably 5 to 10 years on its side but woke up decently with the forced decant.

drank with Jennings on Tonno night. Highly rated from VM (96+). Rated a 'heavy weight in 2014'. Decanted for an hour. smooth, fruit was brighter then I expected, mid weight, thought it would be heavier and more depth, I couldn't tell it was an aged wine nor a reserve. but still very tasty.
