  • This pours medium ruby in the glass. The nose shows sawdust, shoe polish, light VA, very ripe dark cherry, a touch of prune, and black currant. The palate is a tad tough by comparison showing medium plus, almost high tannin that is quite drying and woody, with medium acid. The finish shows a touch of prune with the 15% alcohol protruding quite a lot. All in all I'm finding I'm liking this wine less and less with age. Ripeness is a tad high but it's really the drying tannin and high alcohol that holds this back most. I'm not sure age can solve this one.

  • Still very mouthdrying tannins, while I feel the rest of the wine is already in secundary stage. So one might argue it's still too young, - and looking only at the wood influence that is correct - but I think this amount of wood will never be fully absorbed by the fruit.

So my fear is this will never turn into a pleasant wine. Feels like a typical case of brunello riserva smothered by excess wood influences unfortunately.

  • Brought to dinner by a friend and I opened on the spot...was very tight. Started drinking after an hour in a decanter (and a bourbon and half of a bottle of 2012 Beaucastel), and it had opened considerably. Second taste was even better and after the second hour, it was really pretty. Excellent fruit with smooth tannin. Killer pairing with grilled lamb chops. An excellent representative of high quality BdM.

  • Decanted for 1 hour and then recorked it for 4 hours in the cellar. Should have reduced the time in cellar and had it warm up. Limited nose until we it was 1.5 hours in - then cherry and raspberry starting to show. Excellent wine. Misplayed by us this night.
