A bit past its prime perhaps although not at all old by any means. Beautifully red fruity with considerable length, but much more earthiness seems to be creeping in. Just maybe, and that is all it is, reflects how the tannins in Chianti (Sangiovese) evolve and what that imparts to the wine.

Impeccably well stored since acquisition upon release - never seen a temperature above 53 degrees in that time. Beautiful red fruity with considerable elegance. Drinking bewautifully. Nice length. Right up there with about as good as Chianti gets.

In the bouquet this wine offers just a little pleasant barnyard and red forest fruits. In the mouth it has a sweet start, juice, some meaty and earthy tones and soft acidity. Even some spices. A very nice and fairly complex wine. (And after writing this, I saw Eric's note. My bottle was everything but tart and acidic, so I wonder if he had an off bottle.)

Seattle Tasting Group does Italians and six decades of Porto hosted by Roy Hersh (Bellevue, WA, USA): This was a fairly forgettable Chianti, not very rousing or leathery, just tart and acidic.
