Another wonderful Carlisle. Deep purple with big notes of smoked meat and cool blue fruit. Nose is marred slightly by some alcoholic heat on the back end, but otherwise a great example of an aged Carlisle syrah. Impressive at 15 years, fully integrated and balanced, but still not showing much tertiary development. Could stand to rest for another 5-10 years.

Opens with dark fruit on the nose. Palate is loaded, fruity, plummy and rich. Slightly roasted and there is a healthy nit of oak here. Some heat on the finish. I might say Australian had this been blind. Ever so slightly one-dimensional IMO. Drinks well with some air. Tasty, if you love boatloads of dark fruit and aren't scared by the alkeehol.

($30) 15.9% alcohol. A big mouthful of sweet blueberry fruit but dry in the finish. Rich, round and concetrated with nuances of vanilla and pepper. Nice.

This wine is a great testament as to the aging power of Carlisle. This wine is just now coming into its own at 10yrs old, and needs even more time.

Fully mature, this wine is really rocking. Still plenty of life left but why wait?
