Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 96.5 points

  • Beautiful nose that still shows very young with primary fruit, dark cherries, a hint of smoke, and pepper. It's very complex and continued to improve in the glass. Nice acidity on the palate with great weight and mouthfeel, more cherries, earth, and tart plum flavors. Long finish. Really excellent wine that is drinking well, but should be even better in another 10 years or so. It's cerebral and engaging. It fell a little short to the 1991 Verset next to it and may have shown even better on its own. 96+

  • Dark berries, spice, sweet oak, and tons of structure. You can smell this wine for days, and then taste it for more days as you contemplate the history of the vines, and the place. Definitely a beast that can cellar for ages more, but an experience to be sure.

  • I feel like every time I have this wine it seems richer, riper and more primary. Full of ripe round dense red fruit. Uber concentrated fruit smashes the palate. While the Gonon VV is all elegance - the Trollat is Stone Cold Steve Austin giving you that stone cold stunner and cracking a Bud Light over you.

  • Out of town friends @ Republique; 7/31/2019-8/6/2019: one of my favorite St Josephs ever, the 2005 Raymond Trollat St Joseph. His last year of making wine and what a vintage to end on before transferring the vines over to the Gonon brothers for their VV bottling. This wine is absolutely chock full of material in the bottle. Stuffed to the gills with concentrated bold dark red fruit and a mouth coating weight. There’s a meatiness and chewy texture that builds with time. Every sip is a new experience as the wine unravels.

  • Fantastic bottle. Purity and delineation were startling at end of evening. Gamey aromatics.
