  • 13.3% abv. Garnet plum color, with cloudy brown tinged bottom. Aged cabernet on the nose: dried red berries, leather, some musky secondary characteristics in a pleasing way. Med weight. Still showing some tannin and plenty of acid on PnP through several hours after opening. Despite the fruit fading somewhat, structurally this could go for a lot longer tho I suspect it will become leaner vs deeper. Interesting leather, cedar, sour cherry, pomegranate and spice flavors on a very long finish. Would like to try one of their Shiraz Malbec blends. The shop I bought from explained the mystique and local cult status of these wines. I can see why - well made, low intervention, long lived bones. This bottle may not have had best provenance, but if it did, then I should suggest you drink up soon. Memorable first trip with this wine maker.

  • Cork in excellent condition. Half hour decant with minimal sediment which I found surprising given age of the wine. Bouquet had a definite whiff of nail polish/mothballs that did not go away. A wine that shows good structure however I found the eucalypt flavour too overpowering.

  • Ruby, bricking at the rim consistent with its age. Decanted an hour before drinking. Eucalypt, earth intense on the nose. Texture is quite light initially and builds in intensity and the wine retains a strong tannic backbone. Plenty of dark, sharp fruit helps to retain some freshness and vitality. Finish is nice and long.

  • Very similar to the last bottle I had with that distinctive Wendouree fragrance of eucalyptus, mint, chocolate and savoury earth leading into a palate full of herb-tinged olives and red berried fruit. This comes across with remarkable freshness and precision, carried by powerful acidity with grainy tannins that make their presence felt on the back end. Unique and very enjoyable (and surprisingly easy to drink for a Wendouree).

  • Decanted 1 hour. Deep dark purple color. Intense and unique nose of licorice, blueberry and mint. The mouth was puzzling. It was thin, dull, with virtually no noticeable tannin. You would not pick this as a cab in a blind tasting. I will not put a score for this wine since this wine most likely needed several hours in a decanter to fully show its potential and beauty.
