Weekly tasting group #167; A fully blind test. (@ AH): Special bouquet, hard to describe, some soap…, metal and barnyard. On the palate soft red berries and a lot of spices. No more notes. Special wine. No score.

13.0% (served chilled) - Clear, med to light purple / clean, med to low intensity - raspberry, creme de cassis, smoky, white pepper, cinnamon stick, a light barnyard funk / dry, med+ bright acidity, light body, low silky tannin, med intensity and length. This is very nice and it surpasses my expectations, its light yet it has a good tension while being full of life. It goes down so easily. To be consumed young while the fruity side is shining.

Light purple, translucent. Attractive and intriguing nose of smoke and berries. On the palate, fairly light but with a rounded mid palate that promises more complexity than it delivers. The finish is dry, with lingering fine tannins. It reminds me of many a Pinotage, funnily enough - well, it's not that surprising, is it, given that Cinsault is half the cross of Pinotage; not surprising, but I've never smelled/tasted the connection before. Interesting... 13%.
