You can taste the oak but it integrates well with the fruit, went down easily, drank with salmon croquets, will drink again except that Chalone is no more, RIP. Thanks Diageo.

Judgment of Paris (Washington DC): This was a fairly standard California Chardonnay with lots of butter and fruit and a medium length finish. Perfectly acceptable, but there is nothing elegant or refined about this wine. Somewhat surprising that the 1970s version of this was apparently so much more impressive than what the estate is producing today.

Restrained and refined to its core, this shows soft, citrus, lemon oil, and marzipan aromas. Long, warm notes of lemons, creme brulee, and a hint of elegant toast in the mouth. Displays a velvety texture, a wedge of lime on the finish, and a floral aspect that holds the whole package together.

Thought it seemed more balanced and less oaky than last time. Enjoyed the wine with baked clams and flounder. Good, solid chard. Will need to try again. Alot depends on the price as Diageo has been cutting the price on Chalone wines significantly.
