Similar to previous; I think this wine is just not for me. I appreciate the rustic spirit and the structured palate of fine tannins, but there is simply too much VA on the nose for me. It’s also reductive, with a rubbery kind of aroma lingering. Even after a long decant, I can’t get past it. Not fun. It’s really a shame.

Nose of dark cherries, earth, leather. I found the palate just a little disjointed and out of balance this night, with the fruit a little too forward and acidity that was too high. Perhaps an off bottle? Still, it’s obviously well-crafted wine. Have a couple more to find out, will try again in a few years.

Fuligni Vertical (Ancaster, ON): I really enjoy this profile. While some found it bretty and heavy handed, I enjoyed its traditional style. It pours notably darker than the three Fuligni wines poured earlier, yet with nice lightening toward the rim and a touch of bricking. The nose blasts notes of balsamic, salami, barnyard, dark cherry, plum, and forest floor. The palate is structured with excellent medium tannin and acid. Food friendly and poised to age well for years to come. Love it.

(Three years since last tasting.) Garnet with little fading - indicative of aging in barriques? A very dense and complex Brunello, showing notes of blueberry and lavender in addition to the typical cherry, leather and spice notes. Beguiling but still quite taught and unyielding. Feels like several years away from opening up more fully. Expect fireworks. In the meantime palate is fleshy and concentrated with typically good structure; long finish. Hold. 93+
