French theme dinner at Highland. My bottle. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance is clear, deep dark intensity, dark ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medum intensity takling time to open up to medium+ with aromas of black olives, tapenade, garrigue, light pepper spice, black licorice, blackberries, honeyed nuts. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), velvety mouth-coating high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark sweet spice, olive tapenade, blackberries, dark red plums, dark velvet. Day 2 confiture of deep black fruit that borders syrupy. Flowing powerfully across the palate to a long finish. Very good quality. Power with control. Could age a bit more, otherwise drink now with some air.

Luxurious velvety purple. Crazy aromas of smoked duck, tea, spiced plums and dried porcini. Shining and beautiful entry. Delicate and large at the same time. Welcoming earth, moss and explosions of berries, Szechuan peppercorn, graphite and a multi minute finish. I’m guessing this will only improve. Tannins are smooth but quite present. Really special. Saint Cosme describes le Claux as the most Burgundian of their single vineyard gigondas.

Slow ox'ed for 30+ minutes. Dark purple-garnet in colour. Nose of stewed plums and blackberries, beef blood, with some touches of lavender. On the palate, a very good profile of black olive paste, black cherries, black raspberries, with a minerally espresso streak running along. Full bodied with medium+ finish. Tannins are still noticed. This is a step or three up from their regular Gigondas bottling. Bravo.

Lovely color. The nose shows aromas of dark red fruits, minerals, garrigue, tilled earth and a hint of blood. This is medium full bodied on the palate with outstanding concentration and very good class. The long finish features ripe tannins and a bit of heat.

This was fantastic with 3hrs in decanter. No rush at all with this wine, I expect it to keep shining and peak in a few years. Still plenty of primary dark fruits in this big wine but there are some tertiary earthy notes coming through. Really good spot right now
