  • Thé Mandelawine
Lots of dark fruits and black current on the nose
    Somewhat burnt in the edges
But that is typical I would say For SA Bordeauxblends
Earth and fire def goes with terroir
Dark full bodied wine with tobacco coffee and cassis all around
Still rel young Not a lot of tertiery mature stuff
This is a good wine for grilled meat and tuff dinners
I have to speak out and tell you that this wine used to be in a different league 1996 and 1998 ...
Back then it was confenderer of high class tribut of winemaking
Now it is enjoyable But not a gamechanger

  • Laced with acidity from the attack through the finish, there's a pucker factor still going on here 9 years on. The nose is clean, the fruit and soft tannins keep up with the acidity mid-palate, and then the acidity dominates the spicy finish for a lengthy 45 seconds. Herbal and tobacco notes complement the dark red and blue fruit, and the density is quite good, especially for $17 (sampled and bought at the winery in Stellenbosch, SA 2013.)

59% Cab Sauvignon, 34% Syrah, 7% Merlot. Some sediment noted. Good to go at PnP; a 1 hour decant improves the density. Would pair well with just about any rich food. Note to self: get a slab of 12 hour slow-roasted beef brisket before opening my remaining bottle.

  • Remains a favourite of mine. Harmonic and well balanced

  • Dark blackish purple in appearance with nice fruity and herbaceous nose with hints of tobacco and earth. This South African red blend is medium-bodied, easy drinking, somewhat tannic with a flavor-profile of red and blue fruits, grassy herbs, tobacco, wet soil, and a bit of oak. Very lithe and zippy on the palate with hardly any discernible alcohol despite the 15% indicated on the label. A decent easy drinker but short of spectacular.
