Rust en Vrede's 2015 Estate Red Wine is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Syrah and 9% Merlot. This particular well-cellared bottle was decanted off of its sediment and then decanted through a Vinturi aerator. Thereafter, it was serially tasted over four hours. Deep garnet in color, it flaunts an aromatic array of Morello cherry and blackberry fruit that is augmented with baking spices, licorice, tobacco and sage. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed on the label as 14.5% but actually 14.60%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas. At this point in the wine's evolution, the tannins are medium in weight and fairly fine-grained, resulting in a soft-textured mid-palate and equally soft-textured, lengthy finish. This structured red will last far longer than many pundits predicted. If you choose to pop the cork now, give it a couple hours of air if possible. Drink now-2035.

Opaque black purple with penetrating aromas of spice, ripe blackcurrant, cassis, cedarwood and menthol. Medium to full-bodied the wine has a lively lemon-edged acidity yet has a sweetness and succour to balance. Packed with fruit from damson, cassis, and sweet vanilla. 90% Lindt chocolate, along with cinnamon and a hint of smoke. Powdery texture with spiced-edged fine-grained tannins, the wine is generous, and the back-palate arches to a more sweet, almost sticky (tarry) black currant compote with a hint of menthol and black olive. Powerful, seamless, the tannin does build a little to truncate the length.

Nice balance of fruit. Will open up as it breathes. Strong tannins with a firm finish.
