  • Popped and poured. Medium-plus ruddy garnet hue. Pronounced aromas of well-ripened black fruits, currant, barbecue spices, and roasted sweet corn. Within 10 minutes or so the nose opens to show smoked herbs and an intriguing note of menthol. Medium-plus body. On the palate, flavors of dark fruits again show quite ripe but are balanced by interesting flavors of mint, rosemary, toasted spices, and smokey oak. The tannins are by and large completely integrated on the moderate-plus close, which finishes on a herbaceous note. Ready to go now, this is most likely drinking at the peak of what it offers.

Quick commentary: This was a random bottle found in the cellar. Quite better than anticipated and surprisingly complex...we expected that at most it would be somewhat drinkable and at worst an immediate candidate to pour down the drain - who knew? 13.7% alcohol as stated on the label.

  • Notes similar to 3/7/20 with even less distinguished fruit. This is going by.

  • Nose of cedar and leather. The fruit is dark berry and undistinguished. Big impact, no subtlety or layering.

  • Surprised me with a strong nose, full of fruit, blackberry, other berries, perhaps, strawberry. Excellent color, deep garnet, medium bodied, taste has a slight sweetish finish after a spicy vanilla start. Finish is reasonably long, tannins are smooth, easy to drink by itself
