Softened to be completely open now, powerful nose, bomb of fruit, right out of the gate. Nose: dark fruit, strong beam of vanilla, herbs (oregano, rosemary). Flavor: Blackberries, cassis, vanilla. Loads of expression, long finish.

What a few years makes. And a 3 hour decant. This bottle was singing. Yes it had a green pepper dominant note as almost all 2011s do, but was overshadowed by the coffee and blackberry. They came together harmoniously. Great structure and texture. Great concentration and mouthfeel. Wish that wasn’t my last bottle.

Kathryn Hall Cabernet Vertical 2008-2020 presented by Kathryn Hall (Joe’s Seafood - Chicago): 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
22m, 70% new French oak
-an interesting side note, that they lost their marketing team during this year. Referred to as ‘Shake n Bake.’
Even more mineral than the 2013, and carries a light roasted chili component.

Previous note still stands, this loses a point for me due to a change in opinion on how much oak a cab of this level should express.
