Deep dark purple. Drinking extremely well now. Robust black fruit with a hint of oak. Opened 30 minutes before serving, drank over 90 minutes. Wine softened out over time. Initial sips had a trace of a bitter note that dissipated quickly. Like many of the 2005 Napa cabs that I have had, this wine is very pleasant and smooth, however the finish is shorter than other vintages and the complexity of the best vintages is lacking.

This was a great wine once; however, it is losing its shine. It is drinking as one note now and doesn't have the fruit and freshness left. Drink up if you still have some.

Subdued fruit + secondary + tertiary aromas and taste. Velvety texture. Lovely wine at the end of its maturity plateau. Drink up soon before it declines. Edit: Second day (properly stored overnight) - fell apart completely. Drink up!

Part of a fairly large private purchase about 4 and a half years ago; hard to pull out prices of individual bottles, but probably $80-90. Initial 1 oz pour, then left open but not decanted for about 2 hours. Powerful aromatics were the best part of this wine, similar to the Ovid with wet earth, dark fruit and vibrant florals. On the palate, tannins, tannins and more tannins with consistent tasting notes, espresso and bittersweet chocolate. Tannins relaxed a bit after the 2 hours but stayed quite prominent, and with the secondary tasting notes, overwhelmed the fruit. Deep purple with a slight touch of brown, medium bodied, medium legs. Light acidity, light to medium persistence, no heat. On night 2, the tannins relaxed (integrated? faded?), but the fruit didn't step up, giving the wine a bit of a tired feel. I opened the wine expressly to accompany a filet, but there wasn't enough acidity for a really successful pairing. I'd wonder if this wine had passed its sell by date, but the tannins and tasting notes were very similar to a 2015 Hall Diamond Mountain I had a few months ago, so maybe the winery is de-emphasizing the fruit? I do like the secondary tasting notes, just not to the exclusion of powerful fruit. Not a bad wine to be sure, but consistent with several past experiences with Hall and its sibling, Walt, punching below its weight. Drink now. 90-91

Complex red and black fruits with copper and menthol, spicy finish and a lingering sweet tail.
