  • The last 3 notes are exactly my experience with this fantastic wine. Rimmerman of Garagiste has once or twice said this might be Fontodi's real flagship (instead of Flaccianello) and after drinking this, my first of 5 or 6 bottled from different vintages that I own of this, he's not far off.

  • A massive, however elegant wine holding its dignity throughout the evening as the bottle went down slowly. On the nose it is displaying an amazing depth of dark fruits, very elegantly dark chocolate and very slightly vanillin, hints of leather and black pepper. The small amount of Cabernet is showing its presence for sure. Full bodied but not right on your face, ample and profound without heaviness. Dark, still in its primary, though I can sense the secondary stage will come in about 2 to 3 years. Can't wait to taste again this beautiful wine by the time it reaches the right equilibrium between the fruits and its soil. It is modern, for sure, but Wonderful.

  • Opened, poured into a decanter and enjoyed with food(spaghetti in a Bolognese sauce, in case you werewondering).
Dark purple color. Surprisingly deep purple for a13 year old wine.
Wonderful nose of cherry, cedar box, mushroom and herbs. Beautiful expression of sangiovese.
(Sangiovese and Cabernet yet within the Chianti Classico DOCG.)
Tannins nicely integrated. Fresh and bright with good acidity and depth of fruit with an accent of a savory herbal element.
This was a great bottle of wine.

Likely has a few more years ahead.
    15%abv.

  • Another very good bottle of this. There was also a touch of oxidative notes too, but then there is so much fruit, structure and aromatics, layer over layer of it. Medium-full bodied, dense and poweful, with medium-high but very good tannin, some medium-high acidity and a long finish. As always, Vigna del Sorbo is a total winner.
