Nose: Maltose, yellow flower, hints of smoke, stone fruit, mango, brioche Notes: regarded as one of the inferior Montrachets and also the smallest one, not many makers have access to this Grand Cru. Fontaine Gagnard, being one of the lucky ones who have access to this Grand Cru certainly did an excellent job on the 2012 vintage. With beautiful floral and stone fruits on the nose I feel that this wine is just stepping into the drinking window. This is certainly one of the better examples of this vintage it's complex, silky and balanced. This is enjoyable now and probably will remain so at least another 10 years. Drink: now-2033 Rating: 93

Holiday dinner organized by Ken Brown with many great wines! (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): Sure this has hedonistic appeal, but it is on a fast track to get old methinks. The color is abnormally old for a 2012, and - yet - 2012 is not the greatest vintage for white Burgundy, so it makes sense. It is now indeed sumptuous and delicious, rich and full bodied, but there is a sense of baked apple and warmth on the finish that indicates shortness of life. At least since it was compared to a far more youthful 2011... In any case, let's not be too critical. If you have this, do not hesitate. It is delicious even if it won't be so long living.

Somewhat orange in color. Quite short and advanced on palate. Avoid this.

Disastrous premox.... Tragic. Why on earth would/could a great wine such as this die so young..... Very sad. Undrinkable really
