Opened at noon for New Year's Eve's dinner. Finished the bottle on Jan. 1. No TN from memory. Beautifully complex and evolved nose, which kept changing over the ~30 hours over which it was finished. Fruit is still present and became more prominent on day 2, with forest floor and sweet spices. On the palate it still has a stiff structure, especially immediately after opening, when it showed almost austere. It softened slowly as the hours went by and found its best balance on day two. It was great on its own but even better with food. It still has enough body and structure to go on a few more years, but with enough air it is a pleasure to drink now.

(Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Republique - Los Angeles CA): Served double blind to the group alongside the 2002. This had to be double decanted because the cork broke. It came across as musty and dirty to me, others thought it slightly corked, but I didn't get TCA, which would have gotten most extreme over the hours it was open before serving. Regardless, it was not a correct wine.

Hint of brown in the color. Incredible nose of mature red berries, light spice and earth tones. Good fruit left here. Wonderful complexity. Plenty of black fruits and berries, blackberries and aged fruit. An incredible old Burg. No further upside from here. Drink now or over next 5 years.

Engaging nose of freshly tilled soil, decaying leaves, mineral and some Morey blue fruits. It is driven by its breezy acid spine and has all sorts of complex savoury flavours. It sweetens up in the glass and has terrific poise and balance. There's great persistence to the palate and one is left with a wonderful mouth aroma once the wine is swallowed.

Had with DG at home. Decanted for 2 hours. Was worried it was over the hill. Pleasantly surprised. Smooth finish. Should open up n drink now.
