Blackish purple color with an aromatic sweet-candied fruity nose with notes of vanilla. Taste quite balanced with a rich fruity core with copious amounts of rich American oak, earth, and some dried leaves. This is not your typical Rioja reserva by any means, it is much too big and fruity to fit in the typical Rioja profile. Instead, it tastes much more like a new world Cabernet blend. Nonetheless, it was a nice fruity, balanced and a wonderful treat that is ready to drink at the moment.

Different nose, stewed black fruit, leather, black pepper, dried tobacco. Palate is big style, juicy fruit of black plum, blackberry, fresh herbs, spice, acidity medium plus, finish and body medium plus. Pretty dark for Rioja, but nice value with lots of muscular wine here.
2nd taste later, this is solid but not drinking like a Rioja. Blind I would probably guess a light tannin Petite Sirah.

Dark ruby turning crimson at the rim with an unctuous nose of funky mold, black berries, suede leather, and smoke. The palate is rich, high-pitched with bracing acidity but with a modern feel. Flavors of black currant, vanilla, tobacco, incense, espresso, and spice form the core; juicy on the mid-palate. Finishes long and spicy with hints of oak on firm but silky tannins. Good stuff from Rioja with a modern feel. Doesn't behave like a reserva at all, but very attractive nonetheless. Drink now until 2023.

Russk Gran Pagos Tasting Seminar at the Franklin Hotel in the Design District. Mouth: maybe too much jam and acid.
