  • I used to buy these regularly and enjoyed them. I still have some lingering in the cellar. Just barely a translucent red in color. A funky nose that didn't go away even after being open for 50 minutes. That funk continued onto the palate and obliterated any fruit. There is some nice dark fruit still hiding in there, but you'd have to hunt hard to find it. Mostly an intellectual exercise and not an enjoyable one. Not fair to rate it at this point in its life.

  • Dark, somewhat sweet but subdued fruits on the nose with some secondary characteristics of underbrush, herbs de provence and ash. Dark, rich fruits still show followed by leather and black pepper with hints of charred meat. Drinking well until the heavy wood influence kicks in on the mid palate and leads to a slightly astringent mid length finish. Still showing some tannin toward the end. The wood seems to mellow and the whole thing just fits together better with some air. I want to like this more than I do. I think it is the oak, also it's a bit hot. Nice, but doesn't compare to the Alsatian Riesling I had recently from the same year. This possibly still has more time on it, but why take up the cellar space? Do a little decant and drink this up!
