Fruit: fresh, candied, and a touch of overripeness. But the age restrains it from being unbalanced. Still, I wonder what this would have tasted like ten years ago.
Though I don't buy much of it, I've always been a Truchard fan. These interesting, lively twenty-year-old wines of theirs that I keep finding for minimal cost mean that will continue to be the case.

FROM MAGNUM: This wine was more than alive with solid color any only hints of bricking, which was a pleasant surprise. A somewhat simple wine but very smooth, with black and blue fruits dominating. sweet Oak plus some nice soft leather and earthiness to it.

An enormous wine full of fresh fruit yet possessing remarkable secondary flavors found in a well aged wine. Spicy with raspberries and a bit of soy on the palate with a nose of earth and ripe fruit. This was the oldest Syrah I have ever had with most of the wines I drink with age being Cabs of Bordeaux blends. My wife kept saying this wine was big and bold.
I was surprised at this wine showing so well. My son had given it to me as a gift a few months ago and he had found it just sitting on a shelf at a small liquor store. It was not carefully cellared as it sat on the retail shelf for a number of years. It must have been a well made wine to hold up in those conditions and it showed no signs of being past its prime.

It’s been a few days since I had this wine, but I wanted to jot down a few notes... Very dark purple, almost black. Decanted almost an hour prior to serving. There was a touch of cedar smoke in the nose which integrated well as the wine opened up with a racy streak of blueberries. The fruit continued in the mouth with a fairly large wine that seemed well integrated with a rich meal of Oso Bucco. Truchard continues to make great wines. They have yet to disappoint.

Pretty good juice for beeing 10 years old. Relatively lean but good balance and some bottle age! Red fruit.
