  • Even better than the bottle we drank over Memorial Day. Cork on this one was perfect. Will be hard to stay away from these and little upside I think to waiting a lot longer

  • recent acquisition. cork wet 90% to top but no leak. color brick. this is fully mature and delicious. I did not appreciate any green-ness in this, and only enjoyed the mature secondary flavor dominated burgundy. lip smacking good and enhanced our roasted chicken with root vegetables. this will hold but really nice tonight.

  • Ah the famed vintage for all that's green and sappy. If 2003 displays all the characters of a "too ripe" vintage then the 04's are the antithesis of that. First the bad. My initial impression is dominated by the green streak that characterises the vintage in quite a few of the wines and the palate is continuing the theme. I have had a few of the top wines in this vintage which I've really liked a lot and some lesser examples too. In both vintages I find the terroir struggles to express itself due to the constraints of the vintage and this wine is no exception. Green characters abound on the nose suggesting a stalky influence with a minty/sappiness also being present. The palate isn't as bad as the nose suggests but isn't that great either. The wine has a heavy feeling, the tannins okay and the overall impression isn't one that usually comes to mind when drinking Burgundy and has more in common with other regions where Pinot Noir is grown but achieves less exciting results (eg Alsace). I know the rustic character of NSG but this goes a bit beyond that. This wine doesn't really tell you where its coming from only that it's made from the Pinot grape and for me that's it's ultimate downfall. I might be being a bit harsh on this wine as it does have character and is a well made, brett free example of Pinot.
