I have to wonder if this bottle had been stored properly for the past 20 years... strong nose of road tar, old leather shoe, tobacco, stewed prunes that almost tastes like a tawny port. The fruit is gone and it is past its prime. For those who still have bottles, I'm hoping this bottle was just poorly stored for your sake. Drink now.

Italians (mostly) for the Holidays; 12/24/2016-12/25/2016 (Our Home): About half the crowd liked this better than the regular. Opened for an hour, then decanted and served twenty minutes later. This was more structured and drank a bit younger. Ruby in color. The nose has cherries, cedar, damp tea leaves and smoke. On the palate, the fruit is bold with cherries and dark cherries. Not as delineated but a bit deeper. Still some medium tannins. Good acidity. Long finish. Got better in the glass. Very nice showing. I went back and forth over which I liked better.

Auction purchase. Great aged Sangio/floral nose. Mushroom, plum, olive, black licorice. Coffee? blackcherry? Good length. Loved this, but betting it's just starting on the down slope.

A fresh, deep color. The nose is perfumed and very ripe, showing aromas of red berries, flowers, underbrush and hints of cedar. This is medium full bodied on the palate, with very good concentration and decent finesse. The structure is fading a bit and the tannins poke out on the finish. The medium plus length finish features lowish acidity and fairly civilised tannins.

Quite ripe. Sweet fruit on the nose. Still young. Acidity on the finish.
