Third bottle this year. From memory. Made by Giampiero Bea for the Cisterian nuns. 45% Trebbiano, 35% Malvasia, 20% Verdicchio. Beautiful amber.bronze color. Remember nice nutty, apple, mild citrus flavors with nice weight and mild tannic grip. Really lovely. Not as much skin contact of the Rusicum so nice middle between non- and skin-contact wines.

Lemon peel and a little herbal tone on the nose. On the palate, an assortment of the richer pit fruits, ripe peach and apricot. A little nuttiness reminiscent of walnut skins. More complex than many white wines secondary to the blend and vinification technique, guided by the Bea family. Nuns of the Cistercian order work these vineyards composed of four varietals. Malvasia character seems to predominate. Not for all palates, but worth a try if you are interested in something off the beaten path. A Rosenthal selection.

Impromptu first visit to A16 (A16, SF): Alex insisted I try this gateway “orange wine." Deep gold. Funky, slightly oxidative. Bitter almond skins. Almondina cookie. Biscotti. Elevated alc. 13%. Clear phenolic bitterness. Slight tannins. So interesting - bitter and complex and earthy and funky. Oxidative. Light body. Medium acid. Light tannins. So cool! Score: Around 9.

Bled of 45% Trebbiano, 35% Malvasia, and 20% Verdicchio. Slightly cloudy pale gold. A-Hint of beewswax, apples, tangerines, herbs, minerals. P- Apples, nuts, slightly oxidative, minerals. F- Apples, unripe pineapples, minerals. Beautifully balanced, full of fruit with nicely balanced acids and minerals on the back end. Complex but not overly so. Really enjoyable.
