Decided to see what a Ramonet Rouge is like, this being my only bottle - a substitution to an order placed wherein the retailer couldn't fulfill my order of white Ramonet wines, I agreed to this substitution on one, to try it out. Not a great vintage, obviously - challenging and thus not well regarded because of the inconsistencies in the wines. Nose gives off hints of cranberry and spring water, rocks. Palate has some nice weight and silkiness, dark cherry and more cranberry emerge with some graphite and black tea, but in all, not particularly complex or interesting, really. It's not lively, per se, it's not 'crunchy' with the fruit/acid, and transitions are a bit clunky. Guess I should stick with Ramonet whites next time!
Pretty pedestrian all things considered. A mild sourness and reticent composition. Lacks the depth expected from the producer. Somewhat a victim of higher expectation.

Burgundy Bistro night (Newk's hideout, Bucktown, Chicago, IL): Nose: There is a rustic and sour fruited side that shows right away with raspberries, sour red cherries, tobacco, cranberries, earth, spice notes, leather, and violets. There is excellent depth and the nose was fairly open after about a half hour of air.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and youthful, medium+ tannins. The structure is still showing something youth, but it feels like it is pulling back a bit. The feel is well balanced with sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, spice notes, earth, violets, and tobacco tones.
Overall: This is starting to drink and still has plenty of room for development.

Elegant, restrained, and bright, this is an easy drink, particularly with food. But it's fairly linear and tight now. Should improve.
