Another Fleurieu that I would bet few people could, tested blind, recognise as McLaren Vale and not Southern Rhone. The very high alcohol content is perfectly masked on the nose by red fruit jam, figs and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is soft (too soft to be South Australian, one would think). Screwcap, medium garnet red colour, you don't expect much.... but the wine delivers. The finish is long and dominated by spices like crushed pepper. A very good introduction to Australian wines if you like Rhone wines.

Tried in a vertical tasting of Noon Eclipse 2013-2018 with friends. Second-most preferred vintage behind the '18, lovely ripe strawberry and plum flavours.
A big wine with powerful punchy flavour on opening, a decant definitely improved things.Crazy how effortlessly the 16% alcohol is carried, does not tastes like a 'hot' wine.
Tannins quite soft, I think '13 was pretty warm so would probably drink this vintage before the likes of 2010-2012.

Raspberry liqueur, red currant jelly, rhubarb, flowers, smoke and alcohol. Sadly this latter trait gets in the way of otherwise ripe, fresh, opulent and quite pure red fruit flavors. An excellent wine for the right type of food, but I can see how it could have benefited from more Syrah or even Carignan in the blend (and less alcohol).

Powerful wine. A bit too sweet. However pleasing and satisfying. Lots of raspberry. Kirsch marmelade. Cinnamon. Spicy.

In a good place. Big bold style. Handles the alcohol well. Nice to go old school full throttle sometimes.
