An impulse purchase because I enjoy Martinelli's Giuseppe and Luisa. I should probably have first considered that I rarely enjoy Pinots. This has a dark garnet color, very dramatic bright nose of red cherry and rose petals. On the palate it has plenty of acidity but the fruit is subdued. It's light bodied with a long finish. Well made and disappointing. Another reviewer said this was past its prime in 2006. I have no desire to taste it again.

Interesting experience with this "old" California Pinot. The nose reminded me of a much younger wine--rich, lush, with velvety fruit. The palate was a bit more subdued, and initially showed some alcohol. However, after some time it showed earthiness, forest floor, some hidden red fruits, and was fairly balanced. Would be curious to see how this shows in 10 more years. (PE: 90)

After 1 hour airing, tannins and fruit in perfect balance. Strong fruit, great wine.
