  • Opened up nicely after 20 minutes. Allspice, cherry and plum notes stand out over a woodsy, umami background. Rounded, slightly alcoholic mouthfeel and a long finish.

  • Opened this one last night, nearly 24 hours ago. Last night, seemed almost too ripe and sweet. Has calmed down a bit since then, but this is still a wine that pushes ripeness and concentration to the edge. Incredibly dark with surprisingly large red tears on the bowl of my Zalto pinot glass. Chock full of black cherry aromas, so much fruit. Very ripe, extracted palate, but somehow avoids too-cloying sweetness and alcoholic notes, despite its richness and relatively high alcohol content. No complexity here, it is all about superripe fruit.
This will not appeal to Burgundy fans (and I am one), but if you like big, ripe pinots, very few will equal this one. 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

  • Dark plummy purple, nose of savory herbs, super ripe fruits, and a little alcoholic nose burn. Not shy, this wine is super ripe plums, not prunes, sweet jam, lavender and spicy wood notes. Full throttle with the noticeable alcohol in the mouth as well. The wine is large scaled and the alcohol notes actually lend to some complexity and structure. For such a large wine it does come across as fresh and detailed, not flabby or over done. I think I've been drinking the more delicate style of pinot lately so this, for me, comes across as a little exotic. I purchased it during our collector's tasting at the winery.

  • Solid and delicious Pinot from Martinelli. Plush fruit, both red and black components. Red cherry notes and a smooth entry all the way through a nice finish. Soft and inviting. Love how Martinelli expresses this varietal.

  • A bit more robust flavored than the last bottle I consumed. Bold red berries on a seamless entry. Picked up some spice components as well. This seemed more full bodied as well. Beautiful fruit, very expressive.
