Community Tasting Notes (13) Median Score: 90 points

  • Everything I said about this wine a few months ago holds true again tonight: “A pretty, translucent burgundy slides into the glass. Neither opaque nor thin, the color invites. The sandalwood notes have faded from their youthful intensity, but the spaces left from their atrophy is filed with raspberry and cloves. They waft into a finish of raspberry and mocha. The mouthfeel is rich, but medium weight; nothing heavy here at all. The tannins have fully integrated ... is holding its own nicely and remains a very satisfying pour. Drink now.” The wine continually evolves in the glass with each pour and each sip. It also benefits from a slow oxygenation. 13.5% alc. With assorted blue cheeses. Recommended, but facing toward Highly Recommended.

The mouthfeel if rich, but medium weight; nothing heavy here at all. The tannins have fully integrated. • As this wine continues to evolve its color has shaded to Burgundy. No longer a dark and brooding color, but its scents and flavors are as big as ever. Sandalwood, raspberry, brined black olives and cloves great the nose. On the palate the usually distinct Virginia pine resin gives way to flavors that follow the bouquet. Maybe some green olive also brushes the canvas as well. The mouthfeel is still full and rich, very balanced with the tannins fully integrated. This is drinking quite well just now. 13.5% alc. With beef filet mignon (seared by PMB) and blue cheeses. Recommended.

  • This wine has lightened in color since my last bottle back in 2009, now showing a cranberry core and magenta rim. Gone is the dark plum. The nose is all about the sandalwood, raspberry, mushroom and red currant. Each and every aspect frame the palate. Cherry chimes in. The herbal midpalate segues into some Virginia pine resin. The tannins have smoothed out and are fully integrated. This is drinking quite well just now. 13.5% alc. With assorted cheeses, sausages (lamb and pork), olives and crusty bread. Recommended.

  • Drank this bottle 1-2 years past its peak. Cellar life seems to be about 8 years max.

    Color: Dark, cloudy garnet
Nose: Ripe cherry and red fruit, also alcohol
Flavor: Rich leather, black pepper and earth

I've enjoyed less aged bottles of this vintage far more but this was a worthy experience.
