  • Popped and poured. Very nice R-M Cab perfume of red fruits, fresh herbs, hints of pencil shavings and oak. Moderate-plus body, decent acidity (well, at least for CA Cab). On the palate, Cab fruits are in front but wow, the tannins sure are immediate too...quite chalky and chewy on the close.
Unlike the 2012 Cabs from R-M, this 2013 is still extremely young, primordial even and while it's certainly quite tasty, clearly needs more time (or a fatty ribeye) - probably best to hold off for another 3-5 years, if not longer for the SVDs.

  • Purple in color. 14.3% ABV. Sublime nose of black fruits, molten licorice and Whitman Sampler box. Rich, plush and impeccably balanced. Approachable without decanting. Blackberry, creme de cassis and tobacco on the palate. The finish is long and silky. Ready for business and absolutely stunning with New York steaks. Best over the next 3-5 years.

  • Decanted an hour and it needs at least that much. Starts out a little tannic, but then opens to a beautiful wine. Big aromas with black fruit dominating with some spice, anise, mocha, red fruit. Loaded with flavor starting with black fruit, red fruit, anise, spice, leather and earth. Medium body with the tannins still showing up in the finish. Good now, but likely to improve in a few years.

  • Opened, decanted, and served about 6 hours later.
    Dark purple color.
Nice offers plum, cherry and hint of oak.
After time in the decanter, shows pilum and dark fruits.
Quite nice. Elegant and round mouthfeel. Good fruit and nice long finish.
Enjoyed at Thanksgiving dinner with traditional dishes.

  • Forgive me, for I have sinned. I killed an infant today. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS! MAYBE 10. Decanted at about 6:30 and followed for about 4-1/2 hours. At first, the wood treatment was too strong, although the other flavors held a Forman versus Lyle knock down drag out punch fest to see who was stronger. At first, the oak was winning, with basic wood flavors, coffee and chocolate. After a while, the fruit took the lead and the nose developed a floral component with a tiny whiff of what they add for aroma in fancy nail polish - but no petro-chemical overtones. There is spice component, still fierce tannins, and I think the acid level is a bit above average. I have asked Will for a tech sheet and will report back.
