This bottle was showing exceptionally well. I have tasted this wine several times before, but it never made the impression that this bottle made. The nose was perfumed and heady, baked bluberry compote, a classic pepper note appeared after an hours decant. Fruit was still exploding on the palate after years of bottle age. The acid and tannin were in perfect harmony. Outstanding, proves that this wine is one of the great wine values in the world and that Austrailian wine can cellar beautifully.
Consistent with previous bottle from one year ago. Still a few years left in this aged Aussie Syrah. Fruit has begun to fad although black current is still prominent on the nose. Secondary notes of smoke, wild game, and forest floor emerge from the glass as well. Silk like tannins with a nice overall balance on the palate. Dark fruits and truffle in the mouth with a 30 second finish. A nice change from the typical over saturated fruit bomb that has come to dominate the Australian wine landscape.
