  • This was an interesting bottle. Decanted off of just a bit of sediment, and sampled over the next hour. Cherry and brick colors, with an orange edge. Very fragrant in the nose, it still definitely smells like zinfandel, with blueberries, spice, and a few steely notes, in an overall earthy and musty overlay. Flavors are nice if a bit simple, as plums and black cherries lead over some tobacco notes. It's still firm in structure, not flabby, and there's no real hint of oxidation or senescence beyond a just-slightly cooked quality to the fruit flavors. Medium-bodied, not intense but rather elegant. Finishes well and long, with earthy tones, mushrooms, and citrus-peel notes. Minimal, velvety tannins began to show up later in the drinking window. This is a completely worthy bottle; it's certainly not over the hill. I wish I had bought a case of this wine, all those years ago, at the winery.
