14.5% abv. From the label: "dream vintage" "old vines" "to develop this Shiraz with wonderful structure" most vines over 45 years of age American and French oak puncheons Selected for the Premium Australian Wine Collection. Label indicates this wine might age until 2015 or so, but it is taking things in stride in 2018 with hints of secondary development. The color is deep and dense purple. The nose suggests plum and chocolate. Viscous. On the palate I perceive ripe dark berries along with the plum and chocolate flavors. Mild tannins on the finish. I enjoyed this with broiled strip steak and baked potato. It would also pair with lamb or beef brisket.

Labeled as 14.5% abv. The color is a deep purple-red and it is opaque. This has a nice savory aspect and tastes mature but not tired or faded. I pick up the flavor of dark berries, a bit of pepper, maybe some umami. I didn't detect heat from the alcohol. It drinks easily and was good with broiled lamb chop and both baked potato and home fries.

I was anticipating something great but left deflated. It's not a bad wine by any measure, but it's not great either. Rich dark fruit, and flat, may be it's over the hill.

A wonderful wine from a great vintage that highlights the ability of Eldertons Estate range to flourish after medium term cellaring.
The 04 Estate Shiraz was tasted alongside the Elderton current release super premiums, and more than held its own.
The wine is a deep red in colour, but holding up well for its age , the nose has concentrated plum and violets superbly backed by vanillin oak.
The palate carries its 15% alcohol effortlessly with satsuma plum integrating with a swathe of spices, licorice and oak derived complexity.
The finish is summed up by balance , with fine, firm tannins giving great structure to the rich yet elegant palate. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2013-2019)

On the decline. All of the components did not come together very well and there was some sourness creeping in on the finish. Very different from the Command offering in that the mouthfeel on this wasn't great. Could not hold a candle to the 1998 Fox Creek JSM I had the night before. Drink now.
